{"id":203,"date":"2026-05-23T16:15:07","date_gmt":"2026-05-23T07:15:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/gaap-bridge.com\/?p=203"},"modified":"2026-05-23T16:15:07","modified_gmt":"2026-05-23T07:15:07","slug":"acca-05-how-i-changed-my-acca-study-strategy-for-aaa-sbl-and-afm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/gaap-bridge.com\/?p=203","title":{"rendered":"ACCA 05 &#8211;  How I Changed My ACCA Study Strategy for AAA, SBL, and AFM"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hello Everyone, this is Global CPA??<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After my failed AFM attempt earlier in 2024, I realized something important:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The study methods that worked well for objective-style exams such as the USCPA were not necessarily effective for ACCA\u2019s professional-level papers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So when I started preparing again for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AAA,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SBL,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and AFM<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure data-spectra-id=\"spectra-0abf63ef-ec22-45ea-8121-bd60da2cca33\" class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"529\" height=\"584\" src=\"https:\/\/gaap-bridge.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-42.png?w=529\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-206\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the second half of the year, I completely changed my study approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this post, I want to organize:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>what changed in my preparation strategy,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>which ACCA resources became most important,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and what I found useful as a working professional with limited study time.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why I Changed My Study Method Completely<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, my ACCA preparation strategy looked something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>repeatedly reviewing condensed notes,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>focusing heavily on concept memorization,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and solving only a limited number of past papers near the end.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That approach worked reasonably well for FR and SBR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, after failing AFM in June, I started asking myself a different question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow did I even pass SBR using that strategy?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The more I reflected on it, the more I realized that ACCA professional-level exams are fundamentally different from:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>USCPA multiple-choice exams,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or even traditional memorization-heavy study approaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACCA P-level papers are much more focused on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>application,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>professional judgment,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>structured communication,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and understanding what the examiner actually wants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So instead of obsessing over:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>note repetition counts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or passive concept review,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I shifted toward:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>past paper analysis,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>examiner expectations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>technical articles,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and exam technique itself.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-table\"><table class=\"has-fixed-layout\"><thead><tr><th>Topic<\/th><th>Previous Study Method<\/th><th>Current Study Method<\/th><\/tr><\/thead><tbody><tr><td>Concept Study<\/td><td>Reviewed concepts through OpenTuition and became overly obsessed with repeatedly revising condensed handwritten notes<\/td><td>1. Adopted the mindset that even during KICPA exams, my grammar and spelling were probably far from perfect<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Six Biggest Changes in My Study Strategy<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Less Obsession With Repetition, More Focus on Application<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Previously, I spent enormous amounts of time repeatedly reviewing handwritten summary notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, I focused more on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow are these concepts actually used inside past paper questions?\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That small shift changed everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of treating concepts as isolated knowledge, I started connecting them directly to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>requirements,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>exhibits,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and marking logic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Technical Articles Became Extremely Important<\/strong> <strong>(?????)<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier in my ACCA journey, I barely touched ACCA Technical Articles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That turned out to be a huge mistake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, I read Technical Articles repeatedly and summarized important points directly into my notes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What makes Technical Articles valuable is that they are not simply \u201ctheory explanations.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They often explain:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how concepts appear in exams,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>common misunderstandings,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>examiner expectations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and professional application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In many ways, they feel like conversations with the examiner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>3. Past Papers Became the Core of Preparation<\/strong> <strong>(?????)<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This was probably the biggest difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Instead of leaving past papers for the very end, I started with them much earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My process became:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Attempt the past paper<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Read the Examiner\u2019s Report carefully<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Analyze how marks were awarded<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Identify weak areas<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Repeat<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For AAA specifically, I solved around four past papers and reviewed YouTube debrief lectures afterward to identify:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>missing discussion points,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>weak professional judgment,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and poor answer structure.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to my earlier AFM attempt, this felt dramatically more effective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>4. \u201cRead the Mind of the Marker\u201d Changed My Perspective<\/strong> <strong>(?????)<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One ACCA resource that genuinely changed my mindset was the official:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cRead the Mind of the Marker\u201d (RTMM)<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">series uploaded by ACCA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before discovering these materials, I honestly had no idea:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how professional marks worked,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how many points were expected per requirement,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or how markers interpreted answers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Coming from KICPA and USCPA backgrounds, the entire idea of \u201cprofessional marks\u201d initially felt almost alien to me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But after watching RTMM webinars, the exam suddenly started feeling much more manageable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first time, I felt:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is difficult, but not impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>5. Webinar-Based Learning Became Surprisingly Useful<\/strong> <strong>(?????)<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another major change was how heavily I started relying on webinars and YouTube instructors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some instructors I found especially useful included:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>AAA ? Ben Wilson<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>SBL ? Hassan Dossani<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>AFM ? Andrew Mower<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before fully starting each subject, I watched syllabus explanation webinars to understand:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>which topics were heavily weighted,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>what examiners prioritized,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and how candidates should approach different sections.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That alone made studying much more efficient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>6. Using ChatGPT to Improve Study Efficiency<\/strong> <strong><strong>(?????)<\/strong><\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the more interesting things I experimented with this time was using ChatGPT to improve efficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Since many webinars were over an hour long, I started using AI tools to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>summarize webinar scripts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>organize key concepts,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>extract major discussion points,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and create condensed notes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My workflow was roughly:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Extract YouTube webinar scripts<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Summarize them using ChatGPT<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Review important sections manually<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Add useful points into summary notes<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As someone balancing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>work,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>ACCA,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and daily responsibilities,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">this saved an enormous amount of time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">WhatsApp Communities and Global ACCA Culture <strong>(?????)<\/strong><\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another interesting part of ACCA preparation was joining international WhatsApp study groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because ACCA has such a large international student base \u2014 especially in:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pakistan,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>the Middle East,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and Africa \u2014<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">these groups become surprisingly active.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Students share:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>study materials,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>exam discussions,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>technical explanations,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and motivation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For someone preparing for ACCA in Korea, this was actually fascinating because it made me realize how global the ACCA ecosystem truly is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, I also learned an important lesson:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Leave the group chats about one week before the exam.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otherwise, seeing endless discussions like:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cThis topic is definitely coming,\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThat lecturer said this area is critical,\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">can seriously damage your mental stability before the exam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">My Biggest Realization<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Looking back, I think the biggest lesson from this period was this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">ACCA is not an English test.<br>And it is not a memorization test either.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>communication matters,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>structure matters,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and professional writing matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the exam is ultimately testing:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>application,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>professional judgment,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and whether you can communicate accounting ideas clearly enough to earn marks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once I stopped obsessing over:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>perfect grammar,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>perfect spelling,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and unrealistic note repetition,<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">my study process became much more practical and manageable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\" \/>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Final Thoughts<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I still do not know yet whether all of these strategies will produce perfect exam results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But I can confidently say this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Compared to my failed AFM preparation earlier in the year, this approach felt far more effective and sustainable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a working professional with limited study time, I think learning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>how ACCA exams are actually structured,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>how examiners think,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and how marks are awarded<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">is just as important as learning the technical concepts themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the next posts, I will probably share more detailed
