Why This Book

Volume 1, Concepts & Worked Examples: understand how Singapore tax rules connect within a complete computation.

Volume 1 · Concepts & Worked Examples

If you can remember a tax rule, can you explain where it belongs in the computation?

Singapore Taxation: Concepts & Worked Examples was written for readers who want to see how the subject fits together. Its starting point is the complete calculation: who is taxed, which income enters the computation, what changes that income, and how the final tax is reached.

The primary reader is a candidate preparing for the Singapore Chartered Accountant Qualification (SCAQ) Taxation module. The book also offers a structured introduction for accounting students and working accountants who are new to Singapore tax.

Understand the whole calculation

A rule is easier to use when its place in the calculation is clear. A deduction, an allowance and an exemption may all reduce an amount, but they do different jobs. Learning them as separate facts can leave the reader unsure about the order of a computation or the meaning of an intermediate total.

Volume 1 introduces the main frameworks before the detailed exceptions. Explanations, filing maps and worked examples connect the rule to the working and show where the result goes next. The purpose is to make the sequence understandable enough to use when the facts are unfamiliar.

Why I wrote it

My own qualification journey as a USCPA and a member of ACCA and CPA Australia taught me how much the quality of study materials can affect progress. When I began developing accounting content for a global audience, I wanted to return to the learner’s side of the desk and ask what would make a difficult subject easier to understand.

That meant connecting topics, making calculations readable and explaining why each step matters. Clear pages and useful examples are part of the teaching. They leave more of the reader’s attention available for the subject itself.

Learners have different access to teachers, materials and study time. My hope is that GaaP Bridge can make clear explanations and practical guidance accessible to more of them, wherever they study.

How it fits with Volume 2

Volume 1 provides the explanations and worked examples. You can begin here without buying both books at once. When you want more practice building an answer independently, Volume 2, Practice & Answer Writing, adds attempt worksheets, integrated cases, focused exercises and diagnostic review.

The two volumes use matching topic numbers, so a difficulty in practice can lead you back to the relevant explanation. Choose the companion when that additional practice meets your learning needs.

Read a few pages first

The Volume 1 sample includes original pages showing the personal and corporate tax frameworks and selected worked examples. Follow one computation and see whether you can explain what each line is doing.

This is an independent GaaP Bridge study resource. It is not published, approved or endorsed by ISCA, ACRA or IRAS. Use it alongside the official materials and the requirements for your examination sitting.
